‘Your Party’ Is Officially Over As Zarah Sultana Will Be Suing Jeremy Corbyn For ‘Defamation’
‘Your Party’ looks set to go down as the worst political party launch in history with Zarah Sultana now set to sue Jeremy Corbyn over ‘defamation’ following the disastrous membership sign-up debacle the other day.
Most people predicted that Corbyn and Zultana would fall out eventually, but not this soon…

Here’s what happened: Zarah Sultana posted a link to her social media for members to sign up and pay for a Your Party membership on Thursday morning.
More than 20,000 people signed up for a direct debit, making them ‘paid members’ of the party at either £5 monthly subscription or £55 annual membership.
Just one problem with that; hours later, Jeremy Corbyn shared an ‘urgent message to all [Your Party] members’ on X, claiming the link put out by Sultana was ‘unauthorised’ and urging anyone who signed up to cancel their direct debit…

This resulted in Sultana’s social media accounts being flooded with confused supporters wondering WTF was going on, asking if the membership was ‘legitimate’ and announcing that they had lost trust in the party already.
This prompted Sultana to put out a statement explaining the situation and accusing Corbyn of running a ‘sexist boys’ club’.

As if allowing this all to play out so publicly wasn’t bad enough, Zarah Sultana has now announced her intention to sue Jeremy Corbyn for his “baseless attacks” that were “politically motivated”. These two are going harder at each other than they ever did at Keir Starmer!
Her statement in full:
“Over the last 24 hours, a number of false and defamatory statements have been published about me concerning the launch of Your Party’s membership portal.
“The portal was properly launched in accordance with the party’s roadmap. At no point was members’ data misused or put at risk.
“All funds received from members were ringfenced and protected in the appropriate manner.”
She continued: “These baseless attacks on my character are politically-motivated and I intend to hold to account those responsible for making them.
“To that end, I have this evening instructed specialist defamation lawyers. To avoid prejudicing or complicating any future legal process, I will not be making any further comment about this matter at this time.”
Meanwhile, Novara Media has announced that a group calling itself ‘Our Party’ has launched a petition calling for the six Independent Alliance MPs (of which both Corbyn and Sultana are members) to step down as the leaders of ‘Your Party’ and hand the leadership over to grassroots members under the modified banner of ‘Our Party’.
Sultana has said she supports Our Party’s call, saying it was “what I’ve been fighting for from the start”.
Honestly, I don’t know what the hell is going on, but it’s clear the whole thing has been a complete disaster from the start. Which is a shame, because we could really do with all the alternatives we can get at the next General Election.
Still, goes to show that it’s no good being aligned on policy if you can’t be aligned on how to lead the party in the first place. Sultana seemed to want to push ahead and start making moves, and Corbyn seemed to be getting dragged into it in a very reluctant way.
Well, whatever the case, it’s all c*cked up now and I’m not sure an ‘Our Party’ rebrand is going to save it. See you in court, Jezza?
