A Whole Bunch Of Weird And Wonderful New Species Have Been Discovered In The Greater Mekong Region

The WWF have published details of 367 new species discovered in the Mekong region in south east Asia, including a skydiving gecko, an eyeless cave-dwelling spider, a green flying frog which uses large webbed hands and feet to glide between treetops, a giant flying squirrel and a fish that mates head-to-head.

In total, 290 plants, 24 fish, 21 amphibians, 28 reptiles, three mammals and one bird have been registered. You can check out some photos of some of the weirder ones below and on the following page. The animal above is known as the Griffin’s leaf nose bat, and it’s speculated that its peculiar shaped nose might help with etiolation, the sonar like ability that allows bats to navigate as everyone knows they’re blind as fuck.
