Unemployed Son Dressed As Dead Mum To Collect Her Pension While Hiding Her Body At Home

It’s the cursed Mrs. Doubtfire sequel that nobody asked for: an Italian man who dressed up as his dead mum, complete with earrings and pearl necklace, in order to continue pension fraud once her ID had expired.

The 57-year-old had been successfully collecting his mother, Graziella Dall’Oglio’s, pension every month for three years after her death, reports Corriere della Sera. His scheme had bagged him nearly £50,000 a year, which is a decent return for an unemployed man in his fifties.

The man, whose name has not been released for some reason, kept his mum’s body in the cellar of her home, in the commune of Borgo Virgilio in Lombardy, Italy, without reporting her death.

However, he was forced to get into his mum’s clothes when her identity card expired.

A person in a wig and makeup, with visible stubble on their face.

The son turned up at the commune’s registry office wearing a woman’s dress, wig, lipstick and jewellery to try to fool civil servants. Imagine if he channeled that kind of effort into getting a job?

Because they have eyes, officials immediately became suspicious and eventually uncovered the years of fraud this man had been carrying out using the identity of his dead mother.

The village’s mayor, Francesco Aporti, told Corriere della Sera: ‘The employee shared her doubts with us, and the local police, who were conducting their own investigation, got to work.

‘They isolated the images from the surveillance cameras and saw that the woman had arrived by car.

‘Alarm: the lady doesn’t have a driver’s licence. Then they carried out further investigations, and, piece by piece, the picture of this troubling story began to emerge.’

They asked the ‘mum’ to return to the office, and when ‘she’ showed up, police were waiting to make the arrest.

Aporti added: ‘He entered the municipal offices at a slow pace, he was wearing a suit with a long skirt, he had lipstick on his lips, nail polish on his hands, jewellery on his neck and hands, old style earrings, dark brown hair.

‘But that neck, on closer inspection, was a little too big, and the wrinkles were also strange, the skin of the hands did not look like the one of the 85-year-old he said he was.

‘And the voice, feminine yes but every now and then he missed some male notes.’

In the end, the son had no choice but to admit that he was in disguise, and a search of his home found his mother’s mummified body in the cellar. Her body was taken to a mortuary and investigations suggest she died of natural causes in 2022.

The son now faces charges of concealment of a corpse and fraud, which was inevitably how this was going to end up from the start. Although in fairness, from the pics provided, he doesn’t look too unconvincing. But I guess problems would arise when he actually had to speak. Kinda hard to fake a woman’s voice to the degree of “renewing ID” conversation level.

Well anyway, just goes to show that it’s never a good idea to commit full-blown identity fraud just to avoid getting a job. Take note, any lazy bums out there.
