Two Men Charged With Murder Of Disgraced Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins

Well, that was quick. Two men have today been charged with the murder of Lostprophets paedophile Ian Watkins, as confirmed by West Yorkshire Police.

Watkins, who pleaded guilty of his crimes, died from blood loss after an inmate slashed his throat in his cell at 9am on Saturday morning.

In a statement, police said: ‘Detectives have charged two men with murder after the death of a prisoner at HMP Wakefield on Saturday.  

‘Ian Watkins aged 48 was pronounced dead after being seriously assaulted at HMP Wakefield on Saturday morning (11 October). 

‘Rashid Gedel aged 25 who self defines as any other black background and Samuel Dodsworth aged 43 who self defines as white British both of HMP Wakefield have both been charged with murder.

‘They are due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court this morning.’

Imagine those being the last two faces you see before being stabbed to death at 9am? Bleak.

Now, a lot of people are calling these two men heroes for what they did, but it’s worth noting that Rashid Gedel is a drug-dealing murderer and Samuel Dodsworth is a multi-time rapist and kidnapper. So, you know. Not exactly saints themselves, even if you could argue they’re not on quite on the same level as Watkins.

So it’s fair to say that now that they’ve been charged with the murder of Ian Watkins, they’re both as close to a whole life sentence as you can get. Although I guess they’ll both also be considered ‘legends’ by the lags and prison officers alike wherever they go, so that’s something to look forward to, eh?

Watkins was serving a 35-year sentence in Wakefield Prison after being convicted of 13 child sex offences in 2013, including three counts of sexual assault involving children and for conspiring to rape an 11-month-old baby.

He had already been attacked and stabbed previously during his time in prison, including an incident two years ago when he was taken hostage by three other prisoners and stabbed multiple times during a six-hour ordeal.

All in all, he spent over a decade in jail getting beaten up before ultimately being killed in one of the most savage ways imaginable.
