Trump Threatens To Sue BBC For $1 BILLION If It Does Not ‘Comply’ With Demands By Friday

It seems that Donald Trump smells blood with the BBC as he’s now threatened to sue the broadcaster for $1 billion (£760m) if the organisation does not make amends with the President by Friday, November 15 at 5pm EST.

BBC Director-General Tim Davie and the CEO of BBC News Deborah Turness have already resigned from the company over the controversy surrounding a segment in the Panorama documentary ‘Trump: A Second Chance?” last year.

In the segment, the BBC spliced together two different parts of Trump’s speech from January 6, 2021, which were delivered nearly an hour apart. This editing created the impression that Trump had told his supporters: “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol … and I’ll be there with you. And we fight. We fight like hell”.

In reality, Trump had included a line about marching “peacefully and patriotically”, so I’m not sure what the BBC were thinking by doctoring the footage, as if nobody would clock on.

BBC Chairman Samir Shah has since apologised for the “error of judgment” in the editing process, but do you reckon Trump’s going to leave it there? Of course not.

President Trump’s legal team has sent a letter demanding the BBC issue a “full and fair retraction” and “appropriately compensate” him, or face a lawsuit for no less than $1 billion in damages.

NBC and Fox have details of the letter sent to the BBC, which accuses them of making “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements”, and continues:

“Due to their salacious nature, the fabricated statements that were aired by the BBC have been widely disseminated throughout various digital mediums, which have reached tens of millions of people worldwide.

“Consequently, the BBC has caused President Trump to suffer overwhelming financial and reputational harm.”

It demands amends from the BBC and says that: “If the BBC does not comply with the above by November 14, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. EST, President Trump will be left with no alternative but to enforce his legal and equitable rights, all of which are expressly reserved and are not waived, including by filing legal action for no less than $1,000,000,000 (One Billion Dollars) in damages. The BBC is on notice.”

Fully expect the BBC to comply with this because there’s really not much else they can do, having well and truly made a rod for their own back here. They willfully chopped up parts of his speech to misrepresent what he was saying, which is an outrageous thing for a mainstream media organisation to do to anyone, let alone a world leader. Seriously, what on Earth were they thinking? Do you really need to doctor footage of Donald Trump in order to make him look bad?

The BBC will have no choice but to offer an apology and cash settlement, and worst of all, will have to endure Trump reminding them about it time and time again any time the opportunity presents itself.
