TMZ have come under fire after staff could be heard cheering and celebrating 30 seconds before Charlie Kirk’s death was announced on their livestream.
Listen in at around the 30 second mark…

Now obviously Charlie Kirk was a very polarising figure who was particularly despised by left-wing media, but it’s still pretty shocking to think anyone would celebrate his passing in this manner. Following the backlash online, TMZ put out a video addressing the ‘tone deaf laughter’ and claiming that staff were actually reacting to a high-speed police chase that was happening at the same time:

Well, I guess we’re going to have to take their word for it. In fairness, a quick Google does indeed reveal that there was a police chase happening in LA at the time:
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of anyone cheering, laughing and celebrating a high-speed police chase, but I suppose it’s plausible that this is what happened and it was all just an unfortunate coincidence.
Sadly, there are plenty of people openly celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk online at the moment, but on this evidence, we can’t categorically say for sure that TMZ were doing the same thing. Not a great look though, you have to say. Although it’s not like anyone expects moral integrity from a publication like TMZ, is it?
