‘This Morning’ Hit With Hundreds Of Ofcom Complaints Following Rylan’s Speech On Migrants
Rylan Clark is still feeling the heat from comments he made on migrants while hosting This Morning last week, resulting in the show being hit with hundreds of Ofcom complaints.
Rylan was filling in for regular hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard when he made the following comments during a discussion on ‘mass deportation’ plans proposed by Nigel Farage and Reform UK:
“I find it absolutely insane that all these people are risking their lives coming across the Channel.
“And when they get here, it does seem, and I think this is why a lot of Labour voters as well are saying there’s something wrong, it feels like, ‘Welcome, come on in’. That’s the narrative we’re being fed.
“Here’s the iPad. Here’s the NHS in reception of your hotel. Here’s three meals a day. Here’s a games room in the hotel. Have a lovely time and welcome.
Rylan Clark on illegal migration:
“there’s something wrong here…here’s the hotel, here’s the phones, here’s your iPad, here’s three meals a day, have a lovely time.” Whilst Brits are “struggling, they’re homeless.”

“There are people that have lived here all their lives that are struggling. They’re homeless. Let’s not even discuss our homeless. There are people living on the streets, veterans, all of this.”
“The money that it’s costing us, the amount of people that are in this country that we have no idea who they are, what they’ve done, what they’re capable of – and clearly we see a lot of it in the press at the moment. Not all, but some, what some are doing to people in this country.”
“If I arrive on a boat from Calais, I get taken to a four-star hotel?”
In fairness, hid did also praise legal immigrants in the UK, noting that “[The UK] is built on immigration. Legal immigration — a lot of the nurses, the doctors that have saved my mum’s life, have come over here from other countries.
“They’re living a great life, they’re paying into this tax system, they’re helping this country thrive.”
Even still, Ofcom received 567 complaints following the August 27 episode, with social media also accusing Rylan of being a “fascist” and having gone “full right-wing”, which is pretty ridiculous, to be fair. Then again, it probably didn’t help matters that he had people like Tommy Robinson bigging him up on X.
It’s worth noting that some of Rylan’s comments were completely misinformed, with fact-checkers finding that the Home Office does not provide mobile phones and iPads to new arrivals as they are not considered a basic need. Rather, charities and churches may provide people with them, as well as clothing and food; however, not at the expense of taxpayers.
However, it is true that asylum seekers are entitled to free NHS care whilst claims are being processed, and some four-star hotels have been repurposed for asylum seekers.
As for the allowance they receive; if their meals are provided, they receive £9.95 a week per person, and if they are in self-catered accommodation, their allowance is £49.18.
Ideally, Rylan would have known the facts before going off on one on This Morning, but come on, give the guy a break – he was filling in for the absent hosts! He’s always come across as a sound guy and I doubt anything he said was out of malice or any fascistic mentality. For what it’s worth, he’s addressed the backlash on his IG:

Seems sensible enough, really.
