Tesco Meal Deal Price Has Officially Increased To £3.85 For Clubcard Holders

Forget RPI, CPI or CPIH. The Tesco Meal Deal price is the only real measure of inflation, and it’s just received another 25p bump.

For Clubcard members, this means the cost of a Meal Deal has increased from £3.60 to £3.85. The price of a Tesco meal deal without a Clubcard has risen from £4 to £4.25.

Currently, the most popular Tesco Meal Deal combo appears to be the Tesco Chicken Club Sandwich for main, Tesco Egg Protein Pot as the snack, and Coca-Cola 500ml.

These would ordinarily cost £6.50 if you purchased them separately, which means you’re saving £2.65 by buying them as a Meal Deal with the Clubcard. So I guess it’s all a matter of perspective really.

Of course, you could also go for a Just Ham, bottle of water and Ready Salted crisps for your Meal Deal option. Imagine paying £4.25 for that?!

The price of the premium Tesco Meal Deal has also increased from £5 to £5.50 for those with a Clubcard, and from £5.50 to £6 for those without.

Here’s a look at how the cost of a Meal Deal has increased by 22% in 4 years, compared to Tesco’s profit margins in that period…

Meal deal member prices:

2021: £3.00

2022: £3.40

2024: £3.60

2025: £3.85

22% in 4 years

Tesco’s adjusted operating profit margin:

2021: 3.1%

2022: 4.6%

2023: 3.8%

2024: 4.1%

2025: 4.5%

Now it may look like their profit margins are rather tight, but that’s still £3.1 billion in profit they’re making. Do they really need to upping the cost of everything, literally every single year?

The cheekiest part is how single drink bottles are priced, blatantly in the hopes of you seeing it’s part of a meal deal and parting with an extra one or two quid to get the deal. £2 for a 500ml bottle of Fanta or £1.85 extra and get a sandwich and snack? It’s a no-brainer really. How many times have you been thirsty and bought a meal deal you didn’t particularly want because you otherwise felt like you were being ‘ripped off’? These greedy, capitalist b@stards are absolute geniuses!

On the other hand, maybe £3.85 for a sandwich, snack and drink isn’t that bad in this economy. Pretty sure I paid more for a coffee the other day. Either way, we should probably all start meal prepping from home and carrying our lunch around in a box if we really want things to be cheaper (and healthier). Doesn’t seem like there’s much else we can do about it.
