Shabana Mahmood Says She Is Called A ‘F****** P***’ And Told To ‘Go Back Home’
Wild scenes at the House of Commons earlier as Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood defended her position on illegal migration in response to the Liberal Democrats accusing her of ‘stoking division’.
Mahmood stood up and told her fellow MPs she is regularly targeted by racists who tell her to ‘go back home’ and call her a ‘f***ing P***’.
Shabana Mahmood says she knows about division because she’s gets called “a fcking p*ki”….
So, her way of fighting racism is to play ball WITH racists? And give in to their demands and this will stop them calling her names??!
She’s not weaponizing her racism- she’s… pic.twitter.com/CUrBl8gHz3— Narinder Kaur (@narindertweets) November 17, 2025
The Home Secretary said: ‘I wish I had the privilege of walking around this country and not seeing the division that the issue of migration and asylum system is creating across this country.
‘Unlike him, unfortunately, I am the one that is regularly called a f****** P*** and told to go back home.
‘It is I who knows, through my personal experience and that of my constituents, just how divisive the issue of asylum has become in our country.’
Whoa there! Can’t be using language like that in the House of Commons, in front of all those right honorable gentlemen! Sure enough, Mahmood was asked to apologise by Deputy Speaker Caroline Nokes, who told her that swearing was “not acceptable”, saying: “It does not become acceptable if it is attributed to others. She might like to apologise for the language used.”
Mahmood responded: “I apologise, Madam Speaker. I did not mean any discourtesy. I was merely reflecting the truth of words that are used to me.”
Pretty absurd that she had to apologise really, but I guess this kind of Parliamentary etiquette is a tradition from the past. Would have been interesting to see what happened if Mahmood didn’t apologise, though. What were they going to do? Kick out the Home Secretary for being racially abused?
The whole issue centers around Mahmood’s plan to drastically overhaul the asylum system and make the UK less appealing to illegal migrants. Here are 8 of the changes the Home Office want to make to immigration (h/t Metro):
- New core protection offer: Refugee support will be limited to what is required by international obligations, moving away from permanent protection.
- Improved age assessment: Trials of AI and facial age estimation technology.
- Ending hotel accommodation: Commitment to exit all asylum hotels by the end of Parliament, moving towards large sites (including military sites).
- Reduced right to public funds: Access to taxpayer funded benefits will be prioritised for those making an economic contribution; a consultation is planned for 2026.
- No automatic family reunion: Family reunion rights will not be automatic for those on core protection; stricter requirements will apply.
- Longer path to settlement: No indefinite settled status until 20 years in the UK, with requirements to be set in a future consultation.
- Shortened Leave to Remain: Initial leave reduced from five years to 30 months, renewable only if protection is still needed.
- Revoking duty to support: The legal obligation to provide support to destitute asylum seekers will be replaced with a discretionary power.
