Sam Altman Says He “Cannot Imagine Figuring Out How To Raise A Newborn Without ChatGPT”
The human race may have existed for 200 – 300 millennia before AI chatbots were around, but according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, raising a newborn in 2025 without ChatGPT is unimaginable.
Altman told Jimmy Fallon: “I cannot imagine having gone through, figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT.”
He used an example from when he was at a party talking to someone who was also raising a newborn. Altman recalled that the parents said their six-month-old was “crawling everywhere.” Altman said he immediately became concerned that his own six-month-old was not at the same stage.
“I ran to the bathroom, and I was like, do I need to take my kid to the doctor tomorrow morning?” Altman said, describing what he typed into ChatGPT: “Is this okay?”
Altman said ChatGPT responded “with a great answer – my son’s development was ‘normal’.”

He did confess that he felt “kind of bad” using the technology to ask dumb questions like, “Why does my kid stop dropping pizza on the floor and laughing?”
Now obviously Sam Altman is the CEO so he’s always going to defend his product and say what he needs to in order to jazz up stocks and fool people into thinking large language models are more useful than what they really are. He would literally be removed from his position if he didn’t. He has to sell the product and make the company look good.
Even still, it’s straight out of an episode of Black Mirror. A pampered, ultra rich tech nerd who is clueless about how regular people live their lives, going on national TV and pushing the idea that ChatGPT is needed to co-parent your children.
Don’t get me wrong – ChatGPT is undoubtedly useful and has surely answered a lot of questions and solved a lot of problems for parents raising their newborns. However, it’s not perfect (yet?) and also gets a lot of things wrong, is also no substitute for common sense, and shouldn’t be a person’s go-to every time they’ve got to figure out anything at all. For Sam Altman and co though, that would be the ideal scenario as AI continues to take over the world.
What a time to be alive!
