Rapper DaBaby Under Fire For Releasing Tribute Track To Iryna Zarutska – In Which He Recreates The Charlotte Light Rail Stabbing
Grammy award winning rapper DaBaby has put out a music video for new song “Save Me” in which he recreates the Charlotte light rail stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska — but with an alternate ending.
In his retelling of the incident, DaBaby saves Iryna from being murdered:
DaBaby just dropped a music video dedicated to Iryna Zarutska, the Ukrainian refugee murdered on a train in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Unfortunately, in real life, other passengers seemed completely indifferent and just sat there while Iryna was stabbed to death by paranoid schizophrenic Decarlos Brown Jr, so it’s nice for DaBaby to suggest that he might have got involved and stopped the tragedy taking place.
Lyrics to the track include: “When I stay silent on my morals, yea it cost me plenty/ Better stay out my face cause I’m a man and I will bleed you down/No 9-to-5 you rather post up at the store or something — so we can’t save you.”
“You know there’s just some people man, unfortunately, we can’t save ‘em, you know what I’m saying. I might be one of them. I might be one of them n—s you know, that you can’t save.”
The video ends with a screenshot of a GoFundMe page, which is also linked in the YouTube video, so big up DaBaby for that. The GoFundMe has already raised over $430,000 for Iryna’s family.

Even still, reaction to the song and video has been mixed, with some people accusing DaBaby of exploiting Iryna’s murder for clicks:

Seems a bit cynical if you ask me. At the end of the day, DaBaby is from Charlotte, NC, where the stabbing took place, and so maybe he feels some sense of responsibility as a well-known figure from the area to highlight the issue. Especially with the Charlie Kirk assassination dominating the headlines in the past week and unfortunately burying the Iryna Zarutska story in the process. I mean, it really should be a much bigger story than what it is.
DaBaby has managed to not only bring attention to the story but also did a solid by including the GoFundMe at the end of the video. Fair play to the guy.
Previously, Decarlos Brown Jr revealed his motive in a phone call to his sister from the prison in which he’s being held. Disturbing, to say the least.
