Polish Millionaire CEO Who Snatched Hat Meant For Child On Live TV Speaks Out
The Polish millionaire CEO who was caught on camera snatching a signed hat from the hands of a child at the US open has spoken out over the incident, and amazingly, he doesn’t think he did anything wrong at all.
Piotr Szczerek, CEO of the paving company Drogbruk, not only believes he did nothing wrong, but also threatens to sue anyone on the internet who is being mean to him about it. Here’s what he had to say in a statement he left on Gowork:

“The recent incident at the tennis match has caused a disproportionate online uproar. It’s all about the famous hate, of course. Yes, I took it. Yes, I did it quickly. But as I’ve always said, life is first come, first served.
I understand that some people might not like it, but please, let’s not make a global scandal out of the hat. It’s just a hat. If you were faster, you would have it. Regarding online hate, I remind you that insulting a public figure is subject to legal liability. All offensive comments, slander, and insinuations will be analysed for the possibility of taking the matter to court.”
Robbing a child on international TV and then threatening lawsuits because the internet hurt his feelings. Incredible! The way he’s worded it also makes it sound like he was faster to the hat than the kid, but he literally snatched it from the kid’s hands after tennis star Kamil Majchrzak had given it to him. So not only does he have zero remorse, he’s also a complete BS artist.
Aside from the lack of apology, the worst thing he’s done is threaten to sue the entire internet for being mean to him. If he had just owned that he’s @rsehole then people would have eventually said ‘fair enough’ and moved on, but instead he’s threatening people for calling him out. Saying “I’m going to sue you for pointing out the fact that I’m an @rsehole” is only going to make things worse for him.
Here’s the kicker, though; the company that Piotr Szczerek is the CEO of is a sponsor for the Polish Tennis Federation. Kamil Majchrzak, the player whose hat he stole, is a Polish tennis player. He could have probably just called the federation and asked for a box of signed hats if he wanted! But of course, that wouldn’t be as thrilling as snatching a signed hat from the hands of a helpless child.
P.S I’ve just seen that there’s some debate over whether his response to the backlash is real (which is fair enough because it’s so asinine). According to Grok, it is:

Furthermore, following the release of this statement, it looks like Piotr Szczerek has shut down all his social media accounts.
Meanwhile, Kamil Majchrzak has tracked down the young lad who had his hat snatched, personally met him, and handed over another autographed cap and a load of souvenirs, so I guess it all worked out in the end.

Great stuff.
