Polish Millionaire CEO Who Snatched Hat At US Open Finally Issues Apology Following Fierce Backlash
After having his company review-bombed into oblivion on TrustPilot, the millionaire CEO who snatched that kid’s hat at the US Open has finally apologised and conceded that he was in the wrong.
Piotr Szczerek, CEO of the paving company Drogbruk, issued a lengthy apology on his company’s official social media, admitting he made a ‘serious mistake.’
Piotr wrote:
‘Due to the situation that occurred during Kamil Majchrzak’s match at the US Open, I would like to unequivocally apologise to the boy, his family, all the fans, and the player himself.
‘I made a serious mistake. In the midst of emotion, amidst the crowd’s celebration after the victory, I was convinced that the tennis player was passing the cap to me—for my sons, who had previously asked for autographs.
‘This mistaken belief caused me to instinctively reach out. Today I know that I did something that looked like deliberately taking a souvenir from a child. It wasn’t my intention, but that doesn’t change the fact that I hurt the boy and disappointed the fans.
‘The cap was given to the boy, and an apology to the family. I hope that I have at least partially redressed the harm that has been done.
‘I also want to make it clear: neither I, my wife, nor my sons commented on this situation on social media or on any website. We did not use the services of any law firm in this regard. All alleged statements appearing online are not ours.
‘For years, my wife and I have been involved in helping children and young athletes, but this situation has shown me that one moment of inattention can undo years of work and support. This is a painful but necessary lesson in humility for me.
‘Therefore, I will be even more actively involved in initiatives supporting children and young people and in actions against violence and hate. I believe that only through actions can I rebuild lost trust.
‘I apologise again to everyone I have disappointed.’
Well, I guess you can call that an apology, even if he still won’t admit that he took the hat on purpose. In fact he claims that he didn’t know that the player was handing the hat to the kid, and thought it was meant for him. Um buddy, was the sun in your eyes or something? You literally snatched the hat from the kid’s hands. The kid was literally crying next to you. It’s all there on camera!
Besides, if he really thought the hat was intended for him, he would not have sneakily stuffed it into his wife’s bag. So yeah, he may have apologised, but he’s not really apologising because he hasn’t taken responsibility for what he did. He’s basically saying “sorry you all misinterpreted what a I did.”
It’s obvious that he’s only put this statement out because his company is getting battered on Trustpilot and all over social media. Somehow I don’t think this ‘apology’ is going to help matters, but if he sits tight for long enough I’m sure that the internet will move onto the next thing.
Meanwhile, the kid he stole the hat from is living his best life, getting to meet Kamil Majchrzak in person:

Good stuff.
