People Are Threatening To Boycott ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ After Bette Middler Makes Anti Trans Comment
I was pretty surprised last week when the trailer for ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ pretty much broke the internet as I wasn’t expecting anyone to be that bothered about it as I don’t even really remember the first one even being that good, but I guess I was wrong because people seemed like they were pretty hyped for it.

Well, they were hyped for it at least as a bunch of woke warriors have now decided that they’re going to have to boycott the movie after Bette Middle made a comment that was somewhat transphobic recently. I’m not really sure where she’s going with this, but she’s obviously pissed off with the recent overturning of Roe V Wade in the US, although I’m not really sure if she’s targeting the right people with this tweet as it all seems a bit confused:
WOMEN OF THE WORLD! We are being stripped of our rights over our bodies, our lives and even of our name! They don’t call us “women” anymore; they call us “birthing people” or “menstruators”, and even “people with vaginas”! Don’t let them erase you! Every human on earth owes you!

Yeah, don’t really know where she’s going with that but there’s definitely some transphobic rhetoric in there and sadly that seems to mean that a bunch of people will no longer get to enjoy ‘Hocus Pocus 2’. Get a load of this:
Now I gotta fucking boycott Hocus Pocus 2 because of this TERF 🙄 https://t.co/xagcYbzV3o

Bette Midler, why did you say that? 🤦 Now I will and must boycott Hocus Pocus 2 after looking forward to it. 🧙♀️
What a damn shame.TRANS WOMEN ARE WOMEN 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️

Bette. Don’t be a TERF. Don’t make us boycott Hocus Pocus 2.

Trans women are women, you ignorant fucks. Someone tell Bette Midler that trans exclusion makes feminism weaker for trans and cis women alike.

Someone at Disney+ should probably sit down with Bette Midler because I don’t know who the fuck they think the audience for HOCUS POCUS 2 is but … uhhh they’re losing tons of interest and positive buzz real fucking fast and no TERFy trash is gonna show up to replace.

Bette Midler fumbling the bag just before Hocus Pocus 2 drops by coming out as a TERF is very 2022

a bold marketing choice to say this ahead of the release of Hocus Pocus 2, which has been entirely floated for literally decades solely on the favour of the LGBT+ community you’ve just betrayed 😔😒 https://t.co/fm5PxeRvqi

When they said go out and raise your profile again for Hocus Pocus 2? I doubt Bette Midler’s talent manager had the transphobic and Islamophobic disaster known as her twitter timeline in mind.

Yikes. Not sure if those comments deserve that kind of a reaction, but here we are. Middler herself has sought to clarify her words with the following tweets which seem to clear up the situation:
It was about the same old shit women – ALL WOMEN – have been putting up with since the cavemen. Even then, men got top billing. But seriously, folks, if anyone who read that tweet thinks I have anything but love for any marginalized people, go to Wikipedia and type in my name.

I have always supported and adored, so be it.
But the truth is, Democracy is slipping through our fingers! I’m all in on trying to save Democracy for ALL PEOPLE. We must unite, because, in case you haven’t been paying attention, divided we will definitely fall.

That does seem fairly reasonable when you actually read the article doesn’t it?
Whether it’s enough for Middler to become an ally once again isn’t really up to me though is it? Probably would be at least worth considering given her track record. Educate the woman and give her a chance.
