Paddington Producers Sue Spitting Image Over Cocaine-Sniffing Depiction Of Paddington Bear
Unbelievably lame move by the producers of Paddington Bear this week as they’ve decided to sue Spitting Image over its parody of the beloved bear.
The satirical puppet show depicts the Peruvian bear as an unhinged coke-head in its new YouTube series – Spitting Image: The Rest is B******t.
In one sketch, the clearly coked-up Paddington is podcasting with Prince Harry and declares: “I am from Peru, motherf*****s. I am Paddington Bear from Peru.”
He goes on to thank “100 per cent Peruvian, biodynamic, organic, catastrophic cocaine” for his “personal glow”.
Paddington also tells Prince Harry: “I’m here to tell my truth and make a s–t tonne of money out of podcasting as I don’t have any discernible talent.”
In another clip, he tells Elon Musk he wants to star alongside Pablo Escobar in a Netflix series called “Pablo Esco-bear”.
Acording to LBC, StudioCanal, which owns the rights to Paddington Bear and produces the films, has taken Spitting Image to the High Court over copyright infringement. Although you do have to wonder whether their real issue is that their beloved British icon has been reimagined as a warped drug addict for comedic purposes. Good to know that Spitting Image can still offend, eh?
Obviously parody is protected and there should be no issues with that, but it will be interesting to see whether the copyright claim stands. I mean, it is quite clearly Paddington Bear being parodied. Maybe they should have used Winnie The Pooh instead?
