Namibian Politician Named Adolf Hitler Expected To Win Local Election

A politician called Adolf Hitler is set to win a local election in his home country of Namibia, but claims his father had no idea about the historical significance of the name when he chose it for his son.

Adolf Hitler Uunona, 59, is expected to be reelected in the southwest African country of Namibia this week, keeping his seat in the north of the region after previously receiving 85% (!) of the vote in 2020.

Uunona has repeatedly clarified that he has no connection to the historical figure, saying: “My father gave me this name, but it does not mean I have Adolf Hitler’s character or resemble that of Adolf Hitler of Germany.”

Coincidentally, Namibia was a German colony from 1884 to 1915, under the name German South West Africa. But that was well before Hitler’s time, to be fair. Still, it could explain why the name ‘Adolf’ is still fairly common in the country, though I’m not sure what his dad was thinking adding the ‘Hitler’ part.

Uunona previously told German newspaper Bild: “[My father] probably didn’t understand what Adolf Hitler stood for. As a child, I saw it as a totally normal name. Only as I grew up did I understand this man wanted to conquer the whole world. I have nothing to do with any of these things.”

Even so, he says he has no plans to change his name: “It’s on all my official documents. It’s too late for that.”

In 2020, a car was spotted in Uunona’s home region of Oshana with the name “Adolf Hitler” accompanied by a Nazi swastika on its rear window. Uunona claimed the car wasn’t his and he had nothing to do with it.

Well, best of luck to Adolf Hitler Uunona at the pending elections, I think? Though it doesn’t sound like he’ll need any luck as he’s pretty much a shoe-in to be reelected. Which must mean he’s doing something right, unless this is a part of the world where elections are completely rigged.

Either way, you just know OG Hitler would be absolutely enraged by this. A black man not only bearing his name, but winning at politics too? Man must be rolling in his grave.
