MMA Ref Faces Backlash For ‘Awful Display’ That Allows Fighter To Get KO’d Three Times

Awful display of refereeing in the main event of Karate Combat 58 at the weekend.

Fighter Sam Alvey is knocked down twice and clearly operating in dream world. Instead of calling the fight off, the referee stands him back up and he gets brutally KO’d by Robelis Despaigne:

Hate to see it. That fight was over after the first knockdown but the referee just stood him up and kept it going. Where the hell was Alvey’s cornerman to throw in the towel, anyway? Oh wait – it’s his wife! I guess she thought he had a bit more fight left him in.

Interestingly, Sam Alvey has defended the referee following his knockout loss, insisting that he specifically told the ref prior to the fight to not stop it early.

Alvey said on IG: “The referee is taking WAY too much trash talk from everyone.

“Before the fight even started the referee came up and introduced himself to us, and I said: ‘Listen, title fight, I’m aware I can take a butt kicking. Please let my butt get kicked if it’s gonna happen. Don’t stop it early,’ and he didn’t.”

“He let me get finished. He let me go out on my shield and I am proud of him. It is how all referees should ref.”

“And if you look, I blocked the kick, which means I read the kick was coming. I got my hands up and I blocked it. It just also means he kicked through it.”

“So please, lay off the ref. I think that’s how all refs should ref. But he was doing it specifically because I said: ‘Let me fight to the finish.’”

Well, that’s fair enough really, but I’m not sure he’d feel that way if he ended up with a serious injury because of it.

Oppositely, get a load of the best referee ever diving to catch a brutally knocked out fighter before his head hits the mat. That’s how it’s done!
