Man Who Sexually Assaulted 12-Year-Old Girl On British Airways Flight Claims He Mistook Her For His Wife
A married father-of-two who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl on a British Airways flight to Heathrow claims he mistook the girl for his wife. What, it’s an easy mistake, no?
Javed Inamdar, 34, repeatedly stroked the youngster’s hand to ‘test the waters’ before assaulting her on the BA flight from Mumbai to London Heathrow in December last year.
The girl, who was sleeping in the seat next to Inamdar, woke up and shouted: ‘get the f*** away from me’, and immediately informed cabin crew, Isleworth Crown Court heard.
Father-of-two Inamdar told a flight attendant that he ‘may have confused the young girl with his wife’.
Thankfully, the jury weren’t buying his excuse and Inamdar has now been jailed for 21 months, although some might say that’s a lenient sentence.
Shipping company worker Inamdar is a foreign national from Mumbai ‘without status in the UK’ and had been provided housing by his employers while on conditional bail in the UK during his trial.
Lee Sergent, defending, said: ‘He comes from a different part of the world in India. He has made some success of his life in India helping his family.
‘He has been on bail in this country because his employers have backed him and got him housing in this country.
‘Being on bail in this country has had a greater restriction on his life than a person from this country. He has not been able to see his wife or children.
‘He has no right to stay in this country and if he was given a suspended sentence he would be leaving straight away on a plane.’

Want to feel even more p1ssed off? The court heard Inamdar’s defence barrister was funded by UK taxpayers. Um, you’re welcome?
Passing sentencing, Judge Simon Davis said: ‘This is a tragic case for the young girl.
‘You got on that airplane and sat yourself down on the window seat. At that stage you thought you had the opportunity to assault her.
‘You tested the waters by brushing her hand. You’re shaking your head but the jury has found their verdict.
‘That was an outrageous thing to do. This country will protect people like this young girl, especially at that young age.
‘When she was horrified and protested, you ran as fast as you could, making up what you could say as a way of defence.
‘I have decreased the sentence because of you waiting in this country and not being able to communicate with your wife, which in itself is another tragedy. I consider that as a material factor.’
Inamdar was arrested after the plane touched down at Heathrow. He told police that he was in a ‘deep sleep’ and did not remember touching the girl. Which is about as believable as ‘I mistook her for my wife.’
A witness sat next to the victim, who can’t be named, said: ‘During the flight I went to sleep, and I was suddenly woken up by the girl next to me as she was yelling and screaming.
‘I was quite startled and I asked what’s wrong – she was speaking to me and her Mum.
‘I heard her say the man next to her had touched her and had his hand up her top – she kept repeating this.
‘She was completely freaked out, I think she might have been crying.
‘The man in the seat next to her started saying he had been asleep, it was a mistake, and he hadn’t realised what he was doing.’
Cabin crew member Michelle Adams dealt with Inamdar after the incident and was asked in court if she remembered anything ‘unusual’ taking place on the flight.
She said: ‘A gentleman came into the rear galley to say that he had woken up with his arm around a lady, was his words.’
Ms Adams added that Inamdar said he thought the 12-year-old girl ‘was his wife’ and that he had ‘fallen asleep’ cuddling her.

A transcript of Inamdar’s interview with Detective Constable Fear, an officer based at Heathrow, was played in court.
Inamdar said: ‘As I turned over, I don’t know because I was asleep, as I turned to the other side, or turned over, that girl screamed.
‘I didn’t understand, you know, what happened – she stood up, I also stood up, the girl started saying, “he has touched me”.
He said he went to the back of the plane ‘to talk to the flight attendant’, informing her that there had been ‘a misunderstanding’.
The officer tells him the full allegation, to which he said: ‘I was asleep, so I don’t know. I just turned (around), it was only when she screamed that I panicked, I didn’t even know where my hand was.’
The officer asked: ‘So, you are not saying it did not happen, but that you can’t remember where your hand was?’
Inamdar replied: ‘Yes, I don’t remember. How can anyone specifically remember all this? Whether I moved my hand or anything like that? Yes, it’s possible, accidentally, maybe, but not intentionally – that’s 100 per cent.’
The officer later asked: ‘Don’t be offended by this question, but are you attracted to children sexually?’
Inamdar: ‘No – absolutely not – my own daughter is seven years old.’
‘My whole family, we all have first daughters’ as you know, in India, little girls are seen as Goddesses, blessings of God.’
He also added: ‘In shipping I have a very good post, I am a chief officer, everything by the grace of God is doing well in my life.
‘I just want to say I’ve not done anything wrong; I had no intention, I have my own family – I’m so nervous, even now, I don’t want anything wrong happening in the future.’
Wonder if his wife and kids buy his story?
