Maccabi Tel Aviv Are Annoyed With Tommy Robinson For Putting On Their Kit & Making Them Look Bad
The last thing Maccabi Tel Aviv would have wanted when trying to lose the reputation of ‘football hooligans’ was for Tommy Robinson to put on their kit and Tweet out his support for them, but that’s exactly what he did and it’s now backfired in his face spectacularly.
Maccabi Tel Aviv fans have been banned from attending the club’s Away fixture against Aston Villa in the Europa League next month, with Keir Starmer reportedly doing ‘everything in his power‘ to reverse the decision after calling the ban “antisemitic”.
As Israel’s #1 super fan, Tommy Robinson thought he would help out by donning a Maccabi kit and announcing his intention to attend the game at Villa Park on November 6 in order to show his support for the team, but this has only resulted in making the club look even worse.
In fact, Maccabi Tel Aviv have announced that they will now not be issuing tickets to the Villa game, even if Keir Starmer’s attempts to overturn the ban are successful.
A spokesperson for Maccabi told Jewish News: ‘The risk posed by anti-Israel protesters was substantial, but we thought we had a plan to prevent them from prevailing. But that changed with the intervention of Tommy Robinson.
‘There was now also danger that our supporters could be falsely associated with his far-right activities, in front of anti-Israel protestors already out to get them.
‘With Robinson’s supporters potentially posing as Maccabi fans on the streets of Birmingham, we concluded that the risk had become unacceptable for innocent fans who just want to watch their team play.’
Too funny. Tommy really thought that Maccabi Tel Aviv and its fans would appreciate his support but instead it had the complete opposite effect, because he’s the last person anyone wants to associate with when they’re trying to convince the world that they’re non-violent football fans. Way to go, Tommy! He must be feeling like an absolute mug right now and rightly so.
Of course, Maccabi don’t necessarily need Tommy Robinson to make them look bad, given they literally had a game called off the other day due to ‘violent riots’ and threats to people’s safety. Hard to say who looks more ridiculous right now – Tommy or Keir Starmer?
