“Listen, Love” – Nigel Farage Is Catching Flak For Using ‘Condescending’ Language To Female Journalist

Saying “hello, love” or “Y’alright love?” is a common part of the British lexicon, but how about “listen, love”? Apparently that’s no bueno, as Nigel Farage is catching a load of backlash for uttering the phrase to journalist Mishal Husein during an interview for Bloomberg the other night.

Husein challenged the Reform UK leader over his recent comments saying he would ‘shoot down’ Russian planes that enter NATO airspace. People are saying Farage’s response was misogynistic and disrespectful:

Bit condescending, to be fair. Especially as he said it twice and followed up each time with “you’re trying very hard.”

When Husain pushed him over the consequences of shooting down Russian planes, Farage interrupted: “Listen love, you’re trying ever so hard.”

When Husain asked if he was suggesting Russia “needs to be taught a lesson,” Farage again said: “Listen love, you’re trying ever so hard.”

He continued: “I’m the only person in the world, I think, that stood up in the European Parliament in 2014, and d’you know what I said? There will be a war in Ukraine. It’s coming. I’m the only person that got it right.”

Again, regular people, from working or middle class backgrounds, call each other “love” all the time, but it definitely matters what tone you use and what words come before and after, right?

Here’s the general reaction to the clip on X:

Not a great look for Reform, especially as they already had a fairly sizable controversy the other day. Still, I doubt any one who supports them already will give a sh1t, do you?
