LBC Caller Insists Brighton’s Mayor Is Muslim & Has Cancelled Union Flag Exhibition

Incredible moment on LBC earlier as a caller named Lorna rang into the show and told host Ben Kentish that she believed Brighton’s Muslim mayor was responsible for the cancellation of an exhibition in Brighton’s Jubilee Library that would showcase reimagined Union Jack flags.

Just one problem with that theory – the mayor of Brighton is a white lady named Amanda Grimshaw, who is almost certainly not Muslim:

Lorna: “The Mayor of Brighton is a Muslim.”

Kentish: “Amanda Grimshaw?”

Lorna: “No, no. In which case, it’s the deputy who is a Muslim.” [note = there is no deputy mayor of Brighton at present]

Kentish: “What you’re saying is the Muslim man who’s got an accent must be somehow behind this.”

Lorna: “All I’m saying is there are an awful lot of students down there who are very left wing.”

I mean, it’s just another classic example of someone reading something online, not bothering to fact-check it, and then sounding really stupid by coming up with a load of bigoted, nonsensical theories. Even when shown that she is wrong, Lorna is simply too thick and close-minded to accept that she’s been misinformed.

Besides, as this Tweeter points out:

The LBC team must think they’ve struck pure gold every time they get one of these callers. Crazy to think how many of them are out there, isn’t it? Guess we’ll find out at the next election.
