Labour Councillor Sits On Toilet After Forgetting Camera Was On During Meeting

Incredible scenes at the Glasgow City Council meeting this week as Labour councillor Hanif Raja was literally caught with his trousers down when forgetting that his camera was on.

Raja picked up his laptop, walked to the bathroom, pulled his pants down and sat on the toilet, all while he was still on Zoom:

The way it cut to that other guy’s face – brilliant. Luckily for Raja, another council member gave him the heads up before things got really embarrassing. Although I guess it’s mortifying enough that the whole thing was livestreamed and will now remain on the internet until the end of time.

Raja later explained that he needs regular toilet breaks because he has diabetes, and told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that the ordeal happened ‘by mistake’.

Hanif Raja was seen striding into the bathroom during the meeting Glasgow City Council Hanif Raja has been a councillor in Pollockshields since 2012

He said: ‘I do apologise. It happened, the button was pressed, and I didn’t notice.

‘I’m diabetic. I need to go to the toilet every hour or so. I take a comfort break every time.

‘You don’t sleep at night, you have got to wake up three or four times. That was the reason.’

An SNP spokesperson said: ‘Hybrid working has had real benefits for family life, but you cannot be dropping the kids off at the pool during a planning meeting.’

Well, no harm done at the end of the day. We all knew there’d be moments like this ever since working from home became a thing, so it just serves as a reminder that you really need to be sure that your camera is off or your angles are right whenever you’re doing something you shouldn’t be doing during a Zoom meeting.

Case in point – the police officer who turned up to Zoom trial with no trousers on the other day. Very awkward.
