Julia Fox Defends Her ‘Abhorrent’ Halloween Costume After Intense Backlash

Remember Julia Fox? She’s famous for dating Kanye West, wearing outrageous outfits, and also had a starring role in Uncut Gems.

Since breaking up with Kanye West and starring in little else since Uncut Gems, Julia Fox has got to do something to get people talking about her again. And what better way than dressing up as a blood-spattered Jackie Kennedy for Halloween?

Of course, that pink suit is the one Jackie Kennedy wore on the day her husband, then-President John F Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. As such, Fox is being called  ‘disgusting’, ‘tasteless’, ‘tacky’, ‘problematic’ and ‘disrespectful’, amongst other things.

The Kennedys’ grandson Jack Schlossberg, 32 – son of their daughter Caroline, 67 – also had this to say about it:

Fox, 35, has now defended her choice of attire, claiming it’s ‘not a costume, but a statement’. Um, yeah sure…

She wrote: I’m dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit. Not as a costume, but as a statement. When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her blood-stained clothes, saying, ‘I want them to see what they’ve done.’ The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation.

Her decision not to change clothes, even after being encouraged to, was an act of extraordinary bravery. It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality. It’s about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance. Long live Jackie O ♥️

Well, OK then. She’s obviously just trying to save face here as there’s no way that was her thinking behind the costume initially, but are people overreacting in any case? I mean, it might be in bad taste, but then so are most Halloween costumes, especially the ones worn by desperate attention seekers hoping to generate a little controversy to get themselves trending on social media.

So with that said, I think we should cut Julia Fox some slack. After all, the JFK assassination was 60 years ago! You can hardly accuse her of going “too soon”. Besides, Halloween is a good time to test where the line is in terms of offending everyone. How do we know which lines we can’t cross unless people like Julia Fox are bold enough to dress up as a former First Lady wearing an outfit that’s splattered in the blood of her beloved husband? Fair play Julia Fox. Fair play indeed.
