Joey Barton Claims Charlie Kirk’s Death Is A ‘Bigger Moment In History’ Than Martin Luther King’s Death
Joey Barton is catching some flak after claiming that Charlie Kirk’s assassination will be remembered as a ‘bigger moment in history’ than the death of Martin Luther King, which is a pretty daft thing to say, to be fair.
Barton made the comments on his ‘Common Sense’ podcast.
He told his co-host: ‘I felt that Charlie Kirk getting killed is a bigger moment – a more seismic moment – in history than Martin Luther King getting killed.
‘It will be remembered by our kids and maybe their kids as a seismic moment, similar to – but I think way above – Martin Luther King’.
Will Kirk Assassination have BIGGER Impact than MLK’s?

His co-host tried to calm him down, saying: ‘I think we don’t know right now. I think we’ll know in about five years’.
However, Barton continued: ‘No, I’ll tell you the reasons why. He [Kirk] was 31-years-old, obviously Martin Luther King was 53-years-old or whatever’.
Martin Luther King died aged 39 in 1968, btw. So I’m not sure where Barton got 53 from.
Here’s the general reaction to Barton’s comments online:

Indeed, whether you’re a fan of either Charlie Kirk or MLK Jr or both, there’s really no comparison to be made. Charlie Kirk was a very popular and influential guy, but a ‘bigger moment in history’ than the assassination of Martin Luther King? A lot of people hadn’t even heard of Charlie Kirk until now. Everyone knew who MLK was, and that was before the internet was even a thing.
It remains to be seen whether Kirk’s ideas and legacy change the world in the way that MLK’s did, but unfortunately, it’s entirely possible that no one will be talking about Kirk by the time the next US election rolls around.
