Jimmy Kimmel Tears Up During First Monologue After Return From Suspension
Last week, ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! off air over comments he made about the assassination of Charlie Kirk, where he basically questioned the narrative around the shooter being a left-wing extremist and took a dig at Trump for his response to the tragedy.
It looks like the suspension of the show was short-lived, with Jimmy Kimmel back on air last night. All eyes were on Kimmel for how he would address the controversy during his opening monologue – would there be an apology for his comments on Kirk? A doubling-down maybe? Well, he didn’t quite do either, but he did start crying while clarifying that it wasn’t his intention to make fun of Kirk’s assassination:
Jimmy Kimmel tears up during his monologue about his show’s return
“I don’t think what I say is going to make much of a difference. If you like me, you like me, if you don’t you don’t… it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man” pic.twitter.com/PlU0TQ82ie

“I don’t think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference. If you like me, you like me, if you don’t you don’t. I have no illusions about changing anyone’s mind. But I do have to make something clear because it’s important to me as a human, and that is you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man.
I don’t think there’s anything funny about it… Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make, but I understand that to some that felt either ill-timed or unclear, or maybe both.
And for those who think I did point a finger, I get why you’re upset. If the situation was reversed, there’s a good chance I’d have felt the same way.”
Let’s stop by Trump’s Truth Social page to see how he’s taking Kimmel’s return to air:
It’s worth noting that there are still plenty of regions in America where the show remains off-air.
Sinclair, which owns 39 ABC affiliates across the country, announced yesterday that they would not air Kimmel’s show when it returned tonight, and would instead preempt the broadcast with news content. This morning, Nexstar, who owns 32 ABC affiliates, announced that they would follow suit.
So that’s about a quarter of the country in total where Jimmy Kimmel Live! is still not back on air.
