Jimmy Kimmel Live Suspended ‘Indefinitely’ After Charlie Kirk Comments
ABC has pulled late-night host Jimmy Kimmel off air indefinitely over comments he made about the assassination Charlie Kirk.
Here’s the monologue that’s kicked up so much controversy:
Jimmy Kimmel claims “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it” and “This is not how an adult… pic.twitter.com/KMhnskaYWD

Doesn’t sound to me like he mocked or celebrated the death of Charlie Kirk? He just questioned the immediate jump to the conclusion that the shooter was a left-wing extremist, and then made a mildly amusing gag about Trump’s response to the press when they asked the President how he was feeling about it all.
Is that really bad enough to be taken off air over?
A spokesperson for the Disney-owned network said in a statement: “Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely.”
In fact, it’s just been announced that Jimmy Kimmel’s time slot will now be filled by a Charlie Kirk tribute:

On the day Kirk was shot, Kimmel took to Instagram to condemn the attack and send “love” to the Turning Point USA founder’s family.
Obviously some of the reaction to the conservative influencer’s death has been downright awful and unacceptable, but has there ever been a person whose death and remarks about it have caused so many other people to get canceled? I’m no fan of Jimmy Kimmel, but I think he’s been hard done by here.
Shortly after ABC announced Kimmel had been suspended, Trump said it was “great news for America”. Reckon he had something to do with it?
Trump wrote in a social media post: “The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.”
Trump also criticised two other late-night hosts, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers, whom he described as “two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible”.
Classic Trump. It remains to be seen whether Jimmy Kimmel Live remains off-air or whether they come to some kind of resolution, but it could ultimately end up in the courts. Absolutely crazy time for the concept of ‘free speech’ in America, and elsewhere.
