Insurance Boss Dies In Crash After Aston Martin Crashes Into Tree
A former Aviva chief executive has died after his car veered off the road and collided with a tree before bursting into flames.
David Barral, 63, was driving a grey Aston Martin DBX SUV when it crashed on the outskirts of Leeds, where he lived, on Tuesday.
Judging by the look of both the car and tree, he must have crashed at quite some speed…

Crash investigators have appealed for any eyewitnesses to come forward who might have spotted the car before the collision, which happened at about 2.05pm along the A58 Leeds Road between Bardsey and Collingham. They particularly want to hear from anyone who might have dashcam or CCTV footage of the car.
A spokesman for Aviva said: “We are devastated by the loss of David. His contributions to the company and the broader business world were immeasurable. Our thoughts are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”
David’s family said in a statement: ‘We are all absolutely devastated at the loss of the most wonderful man.
‘Rest in peace David we will all miss you so, so much and you will always fill our hearts.’

The 63-year-old had a long career with Aviva Life and Pensions, where he worked in various senior roles from 1999 0 2015. In 2011, he was made the insurance giant’s UK and Ireland CEO.
At the time of his death, he was a strategic adviser with investment group Harwood Capital.
A former Aviva colleague said: ‘RIP David, whenever our paths crossed at Aviva he was always so lovely. Sending my heartfelt condolences with Angie and his family.’
Very sad indeed, and from the sounds of it he was a top bloke. From the image above, it does look like a nasty and dangerous bend for someone who may have been speeding or not paying attention to the road. Not saying that’s what David was doing, but it’s hard to imagine otherwise given how horrific the crash looks. Condolences to his family whatever the cause.
