Ian Watkins’ Ex-Girlfriend Reveals He Had ‘Target On His Back’, Is Surprised He Wasn’t Killed Sooner
Ian Watkins’ ex-girlfriend has spoken to MailOnline following his brutal murder this week, and like so many others out there, is feeling pretty good about it.
Joanne Mjadzelics, who helped expose the paedophile (not that police took her seriously at first – more on that later), has spoken of her ‘relief’ over his death.
Joanne told the Daily Mail: ‘This is a big shock, but I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner. I was always waiting for this phone call.
‘He was walking around with a target on his back from the first day he entered the prison.
‘I have always been scared of him getting out and tracking me down or something, so this is a relief.

‘I wanted him dead for a long time after everything he did. I am relieved, I feel like a weight has been lifted from my head.
‘This is the second time someone has slashed his throat. I expected it to have happened earlier. He’s been in there for almost 13 years.’
She’s thinking of how the families of the victims will be ‘rejoicing.’
‘He’s gone and they will be just as relieved as I am. Maybe now a new part of my life will begin.
‘The man I fell in love with never existed. He manipulated me and that man who died today in prison was a stranger to me. I never loved him, he just put on a character.’
Now here’s where things get f***ed up. Joanne first reported Watkins to the police in December 2008 and was interviewed in March 2009. She told authorities she had a message on her mobile phone from Watkins expressing his desire to sexually abuse children.
It later turned out that the police did not examine the phone at the time ‘on the basis that her report was malicious’.
Which means Watkins was free to keep offending until June 2012 – over three years after Joanna reported him.

Worse still, his depraved behaviour was only uncovered following the execution of a drugs warrant at his home in 2012, when a large number of computers, mobile phones, and storage devices were seized. Police went through the devices and sure enough – found evidence of what his ex-girlfriend had been trying to tell them years earlier.
Watkins was jailed for 29 years in December 2013 with a further six years on licence, after admitting further sex offences – including the attempted rape of a fan’s baby.
While awaiting sentencing, he was recorded by prison officials saying the case was ‘megalolz’ during a phone call to a friend.
In 2019, another 10 months were added to his sentence after he was found guilty of possessing a mobile phone in prison.
Two men, aged 25 and 43, were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of Watkins’ murder. His throat was slashed by another prisoner at 9am on Saturday morning. 9am! What a time to get your throat slashed.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said:
‘Detectives have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man in HMP Wakefield.
‘Officers were called by staff at the prison at 9.39am this morning to reports of a serious assault on a prisoner.
‘A man aged 48 was found with serious injuries. Despite medical attention he was pronounced dead at the scene.
‘Two men aged 25 and 43 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody.
‘Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are investigating and enquiries remain ongoing.’
Thoughts and prayer with Ian ‘H’ Watkins from Steps at this difficult time.
