High School Teacher Arrested, Accused Of Sexual Relationship With 16-Year-Old Student

A high school teacher over in Barstow, California, has been arrested amid a probe into an inappropriate relationship she was alleged to be having with an underage student.

Katherine O’Neill, 51, was arrested after someone visited the local sheriff’s office to report the teacher was sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl, reports KLTA.

Somehow, I doubt we’ll be getting the “where was this teacher when I was at school?” comments on this one…

Detectives interviewed the student/victim and determined the teen and teacher had indeed engaged in a sexual relationship. In addition to physical sexual abuse, O’Neill is also accused of sending the girl explicit text messages with obscene material.

The teacher was ultimately arrested on suspicion of penetration with a foreign object, oral copulation with a minor, annoying and molesting and sending harmful matter to a minor.

According to the school’s website, O’Neill taught American government and history classes at the high school. Police also believe she could have additional victims.

This is far from the first teacher/student scandal we’ve written about on these pages, but it may be the most unconventional. Like anyone else reading the headline, I assumed the victim would be a 16-year-old boy, not a teenage girl. Even then, the abuser is rarely (if ever) a grey-haired old lady who you’d think had the libido of a dusty library book.

Either way, it’s sexual abuse and wrong on so many levels, so let’s hope this woman gets the book thrown at her and that the victim gets the help and trauma counselling she needs.
