Girl, 12, Charged After ‘Brandishing Axe And Knife’ At Bulgarian Couple In Dundee

A viral clip of a 12-year-old girl dual-wielding an axe and knife in Dundee, Scotland, went viral this week, with a lot of chatter online around how the teenager was simply defending herself from a Pakistani grooming gang paedophile who was filming her.

The narrative spread like wildfire on social media despite there being nothing to substantiate these claims, and it now turns out that the girl was actually being filmed by a Bulgarian couple, who are almost certainly not part of a Muslim grooming gang.

That’s according to Police Scotland and the BBC.

Chief superintendent Nicola Russell said: ‘We are aware of misinformation being shared on social media in relation to an incident where a Bulgarian couple were approached by youths in St Ann Lane, Dundee, on Saturday 23 August 2025.

‘A 12-year-old girl has been charged with being in possession of offensive weapons. She will be referred to the relevant authorities and our inquiries are ongoing.

‘We would like to thank the local community for their help with our investigation and would urge the public not to share misinformation about this incident or speculate on the circumstances.’

So it sounds like this group of girls approached the Bulgarian couple – a man and woman – and the man pulled out his phone and started filming. At that point the girls start yelling “don’t touch her”, “she’s 12!” etc, which I guess is what prompted the rumours that the man behind the camera was a member of a grooming gang who was harassing the girls.

Now, that’s not to say that this girl or other girls in the video haven’t been victims before. After all, they’ve got to be paranoid about something if they’re 12 years old and walking around with knives and axes. However, there’s really no way of saying for sure at this point and it does a complete disservice to genuine instances of sexual harassment and assault when you’ve got people spreading fake context online around a viral clip without knowing the facts.

I mean, certain sections of X are painting this girl as some kind of Scottish hero ffs…

Naturally, a load of people are convinced that Police Scotland are covering up the truth and protecting whoever it was behind the camera. I guess that’s possible, but it seems unlikely. Didn’t any of these girls whip out their phones and start filming for themselves?

Police Scotland confirmed that the girl had been arrested and charged with possession of offensive weapons and that an investigation was ongoing. They’ve also found no evidence that the girl or her friends were at risk of sexual assault.
