Giant Rat The ‘Size Of A Dog’ Found In British Home As Councilor Issues Warning For Thousands Of Residents
A potentially British record-breaking sized rat has been found in a home in Normanby, North Yorkshire, with councilors now issuing a giant rodent warning for thousands of residents in the area.
The rodent measured in at 22 inches, so not quite the ‘size of a dog’, but that’s what the Daily Mail are rolling with in their headline. Gazette Live went with ‘size of a small cat’, which I guess is more accurate. It is a terrifyingly giant rat, either way:
A pest controller was called to the property following reports of an infestation, and was stunned by the discovery.
Residents in Redcar and Cleveland are now understandably freaking out and demand that something be done about the area’s rodent problem.
Eston ward councillor David Taylor told The Telegraph: “The rats are getting more brazen everywhere now. It seems they have settled into the neighbourhood. I have dealt with rats in the past; it’s certainly the biggest I’ve seen. It’s a big concern that it was found in someone’s home.”
The councillor is demanding a full vermin study be carried out across the borough, and a ‘treatment plan’ implemented in council-owned areas as well as joint action involving businesses, landlords and social housing providers.
A spokesperson for Redcar and Cleveland added: “The council has a dedicated pest control officer who manages pest issues on council-owned land.
“While we no longer provide a wider pest control service, we do offer advice to residents where possible.
“The council continues to work with Beyond Housing, Northumbrian Water and other partners to address complex issues and explore potential solutions.
“There is also helpful guidance and preventative measures on our website to support people in dealing with pests.”
Absolute disaster. Wonder if they’ve also got a problem with overflowing bins and bin collection over in Redcar and Cleveland? Hopefully not a sign of things to come for the rest of the UK because I doubt these local councils are capable of dealing with the issue.
Indeed, they’ve got bigger problems to sort out without also having to contend with ‘dog sized’ rats running wild in the streets and in our homes. Don’t leave the cheese out!
