Ellen DeGeneres And Wife ‘Heading Back To US’ After Fleeing Trump’s America
Ellen DeGeneres made a big song and dance about leaving the US if Trump got re-elected last year, and in fairness to her – she stuck to her word. However, she’s now returning to the US after just a year in the UK, so I guess it was more of an extended holiday than anything else.
A year ago, DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi left America and bought a rural home in the Cotswolds. At the time they said they could not bare staying in the US after Donald Trump was re-elected as President.
Things appeared to be going well , with Ellen telling a crowd in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, during a public appearance that life “is just better” in the U.K.
Well, according to MailOnline, Ellen has told friends and that she and de Rossi want to spend more time in California, where they previously lived for many years, because they “miss their friends'” and don’t enjoy British winters.
A source told the publication: “Ellen was adamant that she and Portia were going to stay in the UK while Trump was in the White House, but evidently she’s changed her mind somewhat.
“She’s been telling friends they are coming home soon because they miss them and can’t take the winters over there, and Portia wants to act again. They will be here for the holidays and longer by the sound of it. Ellen was very clear that they’re coming back to California sooner rather than later. They miss the warm weather and their friends.”
On her move to the UK, DeGeneres had previously said: “We got here [to the UK] the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in’. And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here’.”
She also said another reason she left is because she fears the “Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage.”
So it sounds like Ellen and Portia enjoyed a relatively good summer in the UK, but as soon as the weather turned, they thought “f*** this” and made plans to return to California. And who can blame them? British winters can be quite brutal, especially for west coast American celebrities who aren’t used to that sort of thing.
It’s funny how the British weather played a larger role in Ellen’s decision-making than Trump being President, though. Why did she even move to the UK in the first place? Surely they’re rich enough to expatriate to some very nice places. But then – they probably want to be in places where people know who they are.
