Dog Owner Accused Of Holding Driver At Gunpoint, Forcing Him To Dig Grave After Hitting Dog With Car
A Mineola, Texas man is accused of holding another man at gunpoint for accidentally running over and killing his dog with his car.
Alberto Joshua Hernandez, 22, is accused of forcing the man to dig a grave for the dog and then marching him to an ATM to compensate him for his loss. Surprised he didn’t ask him to dig two graves, to be honest.
As per KLTV, the victim told police he was driving home when he hit the dog. He sensibly pulled over, and a silver Ford pickup stopped behind him.
A furious John Wick Hernandez got out of the pickup and pointed a gun, threatening to shoot him. As the victim pleaded for his life, Hernandez made him pick up the dog’s body and carry it to his yard.
He then took the man’s keys and phone, and kept the gun pointed at him while he demanded the man take a shovel and dig a hole to bury the dog.

After that, Hernandez went into the house and came back with an AR-style gun with optics and two attached magazines. He forced the man (again, at gunpoint) to get into his truck and drive them to an ATM to get money as compensation for the dog.
The victim told police he was “scared to death,” so withdrew $200 and gave it to Hernandez. He also claimed Hernandez took a photo of his driver’s license, telling him he knew where he lived. At that point, he drove him back to his car and let him go.
Hernandez has now been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. I know a lot of dog owners will sympathise with Hernandez’s behaviour (even if he did quite obviously go OTT), but it sounds as though he had his dog just running loose in the street outside his house, so surely he’s got to take some responsibility for the accident. Not exactly sensible dog ownership, is it?
Who knows, if he’d just had the man dig the grave and then let him go on his way, the victim may have thought ‘fair enough’ and left it at that. Taking him to an ATM and demanding cash though? Sounds like he cared more about squeezing money out of the poor guy than he did about the dog.
