Digital ID Is Already Being Secretly Downloaded To British Phones, Users Claim

It seems like Keir Starmer and Labour could be pushing full-steam ahead with the Brit-card government IDs, with dozens of social media users reporting that an app named GOV.UK ID Check has already mysteriously appeared on their phones.

Has it appeared on yours? Here are some of the comments online:

A few people are theorising that the latest iOS update is responsible, which is obviously very cheeky as you just end up downloading it without knowing anything about it. However, Android users are also reporting the same thing. How many people are checking their phones right now and only just realising they’ve got the GOV.UK ID check app on it? Can you even delete it?

For what it’s worth, some people claim this app has been out for a while and has nothing to do with the newly-proposed digital ID, but rather is used by the UK government to verify your identity by matching your face to your photo ID for certain services, such as getting a passport or driving licence. So… kind of like what they’re proposing digital ID will do? Do we effectively have digital ID already?!
