Coldplay’s Chris Martin Faces Backlash After ‘Embarrassing’ and ‘Belittling’ Israeli Fans On Stage

Coldplay’s Chris Martin is catching a bit of flak after inviting two young Israeli fans on stage at his concert at Wembley Stadium this week, and telling them that they are “equal humans on Earth.”

In fairness to Chris Martin, the crowd did immediately start booing when the fans mentioned they were from Israel (naturally), and so it was a bit of an awkward situation for him to navigate. Here’s what he came up with:

“I’m going to say this. I’m very grateful that you’re here as humans. We are treating you as equal humans on Earth, regardless of where you come from.

“Thank you for being here. We’re grateful and thank you for being loving and kind.

“Although it’s controversial, maybe, I also want to welcome people in the audience from Palestine. I believe that we’re all equally human.”

Thanking the Israelis for coming, shouting out Palestine, sounds like he handled it pretty well to be honest? Apparently not, according to one section of social media…

Being a bit dramatic, aren’t they? He only mentioned Palestine because of the booing crowd – who were obviously booing because any mention of Israel now is associated with the ongoing attacks on Palestine specifically, and not because of their recent attacks on Lebanon or Iran or Syria or Yemen. He was put on the spot during a live show and acknowledged what was happening, trying to remedy the moment by showing peace to both sides.

Maybe he was awkward or could have handled it better, but accusing him of being an anti-semite is just ridiculous.
