Coldplay Fans Divided As Chris Martin Dedicates Song To Charlie Kirk’s Family

Pretty nice gesture from Chris Martin to shout out the family of Charlie Kirk before performing his iconic hit ‘Fix You’ at London’s Wembley Stadium stadium the other night, but unfortunately some Coldplay fans did not see it that way.

Here’s the footage:

Because context is important – here’s what he actually said:

“You can send this to your brother or your sister, you can send it to the families of people who have been going through terrible stuff, you can send it to Charlie Kirk’s family, you can send it to people you disagree with, but you send them love anyway… You can send it to peaceful people in the Middle East, in Ukraine and Russia, Azerbaijan and Sudan and Somalia. Anywhere that you think might need love from London.”

And some of the reaction from disappointed Coldplay fans:

He did only suggest that people could dedicate the song to Charlie Kirk’s family, among plenty of other things, but of course when people are so ideologically opposed of someone or something, they’ll be aghast at even the idea that anyone would feel a shred of empathy for Kirk’s wife and children.

Besides, Coldplay have been opposed to violence their entire career, and I’m pretty sure Chris Martin is a left-leaning kind of guy, so I really don’t think anyone should take this clip as evidence of any sort of right-wing sympathies. After all, it’s not about left vs right, it’s about opposition to political violence, and violence in general. Surely that’s something we should all be able to agree on?

Just recently, Chris Martin faced backlash for ‘belittling’ and ’embarrassing’ two young Israeli fans at his concert. The guy can’t catch a break!
