Tennis Legend Boris Becker Is In Trouble For Calling A Player’s Fiancee ‘Pretty’ At Wimbledon
Tennis legend Boris Becker is being criticised today for comments he made about Marton Fucsovics’ fiancée at Wimbledon. Must have been some pretty awful comments, right? Well, not really. He called her ‘pretty’. Oh the humanity!

Becker’s broadcast partner John Inverdale said the following as Anett Boszormenyi, 29, flashed up on the screen:
That’s Fuscovics’ fiancée. Her name is Anett Boszormenyi. If you’re a tennis player, always good to have a partner called Anett.
Becker replied:
They do say they have the most beautiful women in Hungary. I wouldn’t know that, but she’s certainly very pretty.
And that was it. He called a pretty girl ‘pretty’. Stephanie Hilborne, CEO of Women in Sport, was having none of it and put out a statement condemning Becker’s remarks:
The charity Women in Sport has worked for decades to change sporting culture, including to end the objectification of women. When two men are comfortable talking about women in this way, never mind on live TV, it shows there is still more to do.
We need everyone to understand how this impacts on women and girls. Shouldn’t we be inspiring the next generation of girls to play sport rather than talking about what women look like?
And some of the reaction on Twitter…
@BBCSport @Wimbledon Why is Boris Becker commenting on how pretty girls are on Wimbledon national tv? #borisbecker #MeToo #EqualityforAll #sexist

It is turning into a bit of a dirty old men brigade @BBCSport isn’t it?

Yeah Boris, how dare you call a woman ‘pretty’ in 2021? That’s someone’s daughter! And worse still there could be other daughters out there watching the tennis and being made to believe that being pretty is a good thing, when clearly it is not! Or how about how awful the less, um, conventionally attractive women out there might feel hearing another woman called pretty? Maybe next time think about the waves of damage and hurt that casually calling a pretty woman ‘pretty’ can cause to society. Better yet – why not comment on her intelligence or personality instead? Or maybe just play it safe and don’t acknowledge her existence at all?
I mean imagine calling this woman ‘pretty’. Pffft…

If you find this woman attractive then do yourself a favour and keep it to yourself. Otherwise guess what? You’re part of the problem. Come on Boris and everyone else with eyes and the capacity for speech – do better.
