BBC’s Naga Munchetty Placed Under Formal Bullying Probe

As if the BBC didn’t have enough of its plate, one of its main presenters has now been put under formal investigation after she faced a string of complaints and bullying allegations.

Naga Munchetty, 50, has fronted BBC Breakfast for 15 years, and was already under review from bosses following allegations of bullying earlier this year. According to MailOnline, the ‘review’ has now been escalated to a full on ‘probe’ (apparently there’s a difference) after further complaints were made.

Among the complaints:

– Naga allegedly “went ballistic” at an intern for incorrectly preparing her porridge (making it too hot to eat quickly).

– falsely accused a junior staff member of stealing, a claim that reportedly left the colleague humiliated and eventually led to them leaving the BBC.

–  inappropriately asked a colleague off-air about their sex life and if they had ever done a specific sex act.

Munchetty is also said to have been “barely speaking” to BBC Breakfast editor Richard Frediani, who himself was facing separate, formal bullying complaints. The situation led some staff to describe the atmosphere on the show as like “The Hunger Games,” with a “deeply divided workplace”.

The BBC Breakfast presenter's future on the broadcaster is shrouded in doubt after further allegations are said to have been made after 15 years on the show

Naga’s co-host Charlie Stayt also remains ‘under review’ for his own behaviour on set. What the hell is going on at the BBC exactly?

Naga is no longer represented by agents M&C Saatchi, who also dropped BBC One Show host Jermaine Jenas after his sexting scandal. Apparently her agents have ‘held talks with LBC’ to explore other opportunities, so don’t be shocked to see Munchetty end up there in the near future.

Man, things really have gone downhill for the BBC since they sacked Gary Lineker for no good reason at all. Just off the top of my head: Gregg Wallace, Huw Edwards, Jack Murley, John Torode, Jermaine Jenas, all either sacked or stepped down over their behaviour, and of course The Director General Tim Davie and BBC News CEO Deborah Turness both quitting following the scandalous Trump edit. Bullying probes into Strictly Come Dancing, Masterchef and BBC Breakfast. And that’s without even going back to the Saville days.

What Naga Munchetty is accused of is relatively lightweight compared to some of those names, but still, not acceptable by any modern standards. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.
