All Tourists To Have Last 5 Years Of Social Media Activity Checked When Entering The US

All tourists – including those from Britain – will have their social media activity screened before being allowed entry into the US under new plans being considered by the country’s border force. Remember when people thought Trump was going to be the antidote to this sort of thing?

As per Sky News, it would become ‘mandatory’ for anyone entering the US to reveal their last five years of social media activity, all email addresses they’ve used in the last 10 years, five years of phone numbers, and the personal details of family members including their names, addresses, birthdays and birthplaces.

This information will need to be added to your ESTA form, with the proposal stating: ‘the data element will require ESTA applicants to provide their social media from the last five years’.

For now, Brits can still visit the US for up to 90 days without a visa as long as they fill in an ESTA form for £30. Currently, all you have to do is provide an email address, home address, phone number, and emergency contact details and the ESTA form is good for two years.

Things will get way more invasive and complicated once it becomes mandatory to also add your social media history, and all the rest of it. Can you imagine if they roll this out before the World Cup in 2026? Geez, that could get interesting.

Even without the new plans, there have been several reports of travelers already having been denied entry into the US over social media posts and text messages. This includes a scientist from France who was turned away at the US border last March after text messages “that reflect hatred toward Trump and can be described as terrorism” were found on his phone.

It’s all very mental considering Trump ran his campaign on “restoring freedom of speech” and ending “federal censorship” when he took office. Turns out he’s doing the complete opposite. How stupid do the people who voted for him feel now? Well, I guess the alternative wasn’t any better, to be fair.

Now, there is a chance that these new proposals won’t come into affect at all (here’s hoping), but it does go to show that the US government is increasing barriers and restrictions to travel as well as to freedom of expression.

Other plans in the proposal suggest shutting down the ESTA website so it all has to be done through an app, and a proposal to use geolocation on people leaving the US once their stay is over to be sure they have actually departed. How f—ing insane is that?

We’re not even one year into Trump’s second term and this is the madness he (or whoever controls him) is pulling. And remember – this is just the stuff we’re being made to privy to. Spying on citizens, selling their info, it’s all just getting started.

Any update on the Epstein files? Nah, didn’t so.
