Katy Perry Wins Lawsuit Against 85-Year-Old Disabled Veteran – Who Now Has To Pay Her $2 Million
Katy Perry has been catching a lot of flak recently over the fact she’s taken a disabled, bed-ridden veteran to court, suing him over the $15million Montecito home she purchased from him five years ago.
People are calling the 41-year-old pop star ‘heartless’, ‘ruthless’, and all the rest of it. After all, this 85-old man just wants to live out the rest of his days chilling in a hospital bed; the last thing he needs is the stress of a superstar singer dragging him through the courts.
Well, that is one way of looking at it, but in fairness, when you look at the details, the old man did royally screw her over in the property deal.

Carl Westcott, who is the multimillionaire founder of 1-800-Flowers, agreed to sell the eight-bedroom, 11-bathroom property to Perry back in 2020. However, within days of agreeing a sale, Westcott tried backing out, claiming he was off his face on painkillers when he signed the paperwork.
However, the judge overseeing the case concluded in May 2024 that Westcott was of sound mind and presented ‘no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract.’
Even after the judge sided with Perry, she incurred significant costs due to the prolonged legal battle, as well as losing out on substantial rental value because the property was tied up in litigation from 2020 to 2024.
Aside from that, she also claimed over $1.3 million was needed for necessary repairs and maintenance, including water damage in the basement and damage from a fallen tree, after Westcott neglected the property during the dispute.
In the end, Perry was awarded $1.8 million, which is significantly less than the total $5 million she was after, but at least it’s all sorted now. In fact, the amount will be deducted from the remaining $6 million of the original purchase price that Perry still owes on the property.

So basically, this poor dying veteran sold his house to Katy Perry for $15 million, had a change of heart after the deal was agreed, and either wanted to move back into the house himself or put it on the market again for more money.
Katy Perry took not pity on Westcott whatsoever and engaged in a years-long legal battle in order to acquire the house and damages, which is fair enough really. What, was she supposed to let him screw her over because he’s an 85 year old veteran? He’s the 1-800-Flowers guy! He’s got multiple homes! He’s rich!
Yeah OK he’s also 85 years old, disabled and dying, but that’s neither here not there. Can’t be having ‘oopsy-daisy’ moments on a multi-million property deal. Even if we were talking about a £50k sh1thole in Burnley, Katy Perry would still be in the right in this situation.
