XL Bully Ripped Hijab Off A Woman And Left Teeth Marks On Her Forehead

Just when you think we’ve had a nice little break from hearing about XL Bullies ripping people to shreds in the UK, we get this story involving a dog ripping a woman’s hijab off and biting her in the head.

The incident took place on Wrexham High Street, Wales, in the afternoon of August 31 last year, but the case only concluded in court this week.

The victim, Yasmin Begum, saw the dog’s owner, Tomasz Wegner, 45, walking along the street with his XL Bully and moved away because she was “scared.”

According to prosecutor Laura Knightly, here’s how it played out from there: “She ran into a doorway and attempted to get away from the dog. The defendant followed her and shouted at her aggressively in the doorway she was hiding in.”

“The dog then grabbed and dragged her. It removed her hijab and tried to bite her forehead.”

As a result, Begum was left with teeth marks on her forehead but it did not pierce the skin, reports WalesOnline.

Begum said Wegner had shouted abuse at her “without any provocation” and “indirectly caused me to be set on by his dog through his actions”. She said she is still traumatised by the incident, as are her two children who witnessed the whole thing.

Wegner initially denied that the dog was an XL Bully when questioned by police, and also denied being drunk. He claimed the dog was “friendly” and wanted to “greet” the woman.

In the end, Wenger confessed that the dog was indeed an XL Bully, which led to a good news/bad news situation for him. The good news – he avoided a jail term and was instead given 15 months suspended for two years.

The bad news – the XL Bully was ordered to be destroyed, given it was unregistered and illegal to own.

In terms of XL Bully crimes, I guess this one does rank pretty low given what we’ve seen in the past. Still, it sounds like a terrifying experience for Yasmin Begum and her children, and could have been a lot worse given the owner sounds like an irresponsible moron. What if the dog had got a proper hold of her head? What if it had gone after one of her kids instead?

All in all, probably the correct outcome.
