Young “Mum”, 22, Faked Her Pregnancy & Tried To Pass Off Silicone Doll As Newborn

A young “mum” in Scotland has admitted to faking her pregnancy and even purchasing a Reborn Doll after “giving birth” in order to continue the hoax.

Kira Cousins, 22, has issued an apology this week after her bizarre hoax was uncovered and started spreading rapidly across social media. Her own mum and dad and boyfriend – the baby’s would-be father –  had no idea that the pregnancy was fake!

In a now-deleted IG post seen by the Daily Record, Kira wrote: “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t pregnant. There was no baby. I made it up and kept it going way too far. I faked scans, messages, a whole birth story, and acted like a doll was a real baby.

“I was in bed when my mother came into my room and found it to be a doll. Prior to this, I had been keeping myself away from literally everyone. The next thing I know, I was confronted by all the family. Don’t for one minute think they let me away with this, they haven’t.

“And none of them knew. Neither did the dad and his family.”

Friend Neave McRobert said suspicions were raised when loved ones noticed the “baby” had not cried and that Kira refused to let anyone touch it, claiming the baby had been to hospital for recent check-ups.

Kira tricked family and friends and even put on a gender reveal party with the baby’s “father”. She shared a post on Facebook after the “birth,” saying: “Miss Bonnie-Leigh Joyce Gardner. Born 10/10/25 @ 2: 46 am. 5lbs 4oz … All warm and wrapped up today, equally as cute.”

Pretty crazy that it took so long to rumble her. I mean, if you can’t tell that this is a fake baby, then surely you need to go to Specsavers:

In fairness to Kira’s loved ones, a family friend who spoke anonymously to the Daily Record said she knew all along that the pregnancy and baby were fake.

Describing Kira as a “serial liar”, she told the outlet: “I have known her for 10 years and she has lied about all sorts.

“She came into my house twice before this doll appeared and me and daughter noticed straight away that her bump wasn’t real. It was all lumpy. She was wearing very thin pyjamas and you could see the straps on her back holding it on.

“When she posted the picture of her supposed baby, it knew looked like a doll but I would have been slaughtered if I had spoken out about all this and said I didn’t think any of it was real.”

I don’t want to go too hard on Kira because there could be a mental illness at play here that’s beyond just regular attention-seeking behaviour, but with all the effort she put into this fake pregnancy and birth, surely it would have been easier to just get pregnant for real?

I mean, what was the end game here? Her friends and family would have expected the baby to grow into a toddler and a teenager and learn to drive and go to uni and all sorts. I imagine she had a “whoops, the baby died” escape plan for when things got to that stage, but even then, how are you going to have a funeral for a fake baby?

In the end, her mum walked in on her and found the fake baby, but I suspect the whole facade would have fallen apart within months even if she hadn’t. Here’s hoping Kira gets the help she needs to keep her from pulling a stunt like this again and to help her understand why it was a terrible idea that was doomed to fail in the first place.
