Polish Woman Claiming To Be Madeleine McCann Breaks Down As Court ‘Hears Evidence’ She Isn’t Missing Girl
The Polish woman who has claimed to be Madeleine McCann for the last three or so years broke down in tears in court this week after being told she is categorically not the missing British child.
Julia Wandelt, 24, was reportedly in tears as she left Leicester Crown Court this week, having claimed she was the McCann’s missing daughter and recalled details of her disappearance and childhood.
It turns out Maddie wasn’t the only girl Wandelt had tried to impersonate, as Prosecutor Michael Duck KC told the jury: “By the latter part of February 2023, she had now asserted she was potentially two different missing girls.”
Indeed, aside from claiming she was Madeleine McCann, Wandelt also claimed to be missing German girl Inga Gehricke, and missing American girl Acacia Bishop. Make your mind up, girl!
Wandelt is currently on trial along with Karen Spragg, 61, on charges of stalking Kate and Gerry McCann, and causing serious alarm or distress between June 2022 and February this year.
Jurors were told that there was ‘unequivocal scientific evidence’ that Wandelt has no relation to the McCanns at all, but despite this, she ‘pursued that myth’, stalking the McCanns and bombarding them with emails, phone calls, and even a surprise visit at their home.
Somewhat amusingly, the prosecutor emphasised early on in proceedings: “Can we at this very early stage in the trial make this position clear – that Julia Wandelt is not Madeleine McCann.”
At that point, Wandelt began crying and returned to the back of the dock, before trying to persuade the jury of five men and seven women that she was actually the missing girl. This girl does not have any quit in her – will give her that.
Michael Duck KC continued: “Her contention over the two and a half years that followed was therefore that she must have been abducted and taken to Poland where she lived with people who she was erroneously told were her parents.”
He went on: “You will see and hear occasions upon which she claims to have evolving memories of what actually happened in May 2007.

“She pursued claims that she was Madeleine McCann and she pursued Madeleine McCann’s parents over a period of time and pursued that myth.
“You will hear unequivocal scientific evidence in this case that Madeleine McCann is the natural daughter of Kate and Gerry McCann. Julia Wandelt has no familial link to them.”
Despite DNA testing showing otherwise, Wandelt claims that she remembers being a part of the family.
Even still, the prosecutor highlighted: “Nothing gives you the right to pursue and stalk people just because you want them to bend to your will and do as you demand or request.”
Can’t argue with that really. You would think that there’s probably a mental illness at play here as this seems far beyond just an attention-seeking exercise from the 24-year-old at this point. Who knows – maybe being convicted with stalking Kate & Gerry McCann is what needs to happen to finally knock some sense into this girl. Here’s hoping she gets the help she needs while we continue to spend millions and come up with nothing substantial in the search for Madeleine McCann.
