Drug Dog Visiting Middle School Finds Cocaine In Teacher’s Wallet

A math teacher has been arrested at a middle school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after she was found to have cocaine in her wallet.

It probably wasn’t a good idea to bring her supply into work on the day that there was a drug dog on the premises at Westdale Middle School.

The dog began sniffing and reacting around Virginia Somers, 47, and sure enough – its handlers found a baggy containing white powder in her wallet. The drugs were tested and confirmed to be cocaine, reports the NY Post.

In fairness to Ms Somers, this does look like the face of someone who needs cocaine to get through a work day:

Virginia Somers' mugshot.

Officials said that Somers told them that the cocaine belonged to a friend who gave it to her at the LSU football tailgate Saturday. Classic excuse.

Might have had some merit if officers didn’t then search her car and find marijuana and some glass pipes.

Somers now faces possession charges for drugs and paraphernalia.

Somers had been teaching at the school for over a decade, although it’s hard to say whether she’s been coked up that whole time. I guess when you’ve been teacher 11 – 14 year olds for that long, eventually coffee alone just won’t cut it. How else is she supposed to stay wired while teaching math to rowdy schoolchildren for all those years?

In a statement, the East Baton Rouge Parish Public School System said, “this behavior is not condoned by our district and we remain committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and drug-free environment for all students and staff.”

At least she wasn’t selling it to the pupils, I suppose.
